Chicago To Be The Home Of World’s Second Tallest Building

Chicago Spire

In a recent article we informed you that Chicago will be the home of an impressive structure, the Eco-Bridge. Well, if you thought that the bridge is great, wait until you’ll see the Chicago Spire which is destined to become world’s second tallest building. The tower was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and in 2011 when it will be completed it will be 2000-feet tall.

Chicago’s Spire is a halcyon monolith and it already was declared as the most significant residential building in the world as its 150 floors will provide enough space for 1,194 residences. The architect, Calatrava is very proud of his structure because “this building is not done for a corporation, or a group of corporations, it is done for individual human beings”. The tower is futuristic and cool as it “rotates” an average 2.44 degrees to a total of 360 degrees from top to bottom.

The helical structure was “inspired by the nature, by the interaction of earth, water and air” and the fluid facade will be covered in “high performance glass” that will help protecting the migratory birds. The cooling of the Chicago Spire will be provided by a geothermal system that will draw water from the river, and landscaping will be maintained through a rainwater recycling system.

This astonishing structure will also feature an Intelligent Building & Energy Management System that will “outfit” the whole interior and will best the efficiency of the energy by 15%. Well, I would really like to live in this sparkling tower and hopefully by 2011 I will manage to raise enough money in order to make my dream come true.

Impressive. Although it sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the buildings for now, it’s innovative. Hopefully the other buildings will change to match this one in the future; in both function and design.

Another fancy that will never be built.
Why do architects waste their time and ours with these delusional outbursts?
100 new McDonald’s for Chicago is more realistic.

Although I love this building, I cant help but see that the shape resembles something that a little kid found in a couch in an Ikea commercial.

Missing from this article was the location in Chicago of the proposed structure. As a former resident of Chicago, I’d like to know.

looks to me like chicago giving the giant finger to the whole country just as it has been doing for years to the rest of illinois. fitting that it will be completed in 2011 when osamaobama will be close to finishing his term of raping and pillaging our country.
