Ras al Khaimah’s Gateway City

Last period of time, United Arab Emirates has become one of the most suitable places on Earth for building an eco-city, based exclusively on solar energy. Competing the zero waste, car-free, carbon neutral Masdar city designed by Norman Foster and partners, Rem Koolhaas conceived another ecological masterpiece: The Gateway City.

Situated on the emirate of Ras al Khaimah and expanded on 1.2 million square meter area, The Gateway City planes to offer you anything you need inside the boundaries of the city, although it might be easily connected to all of Ras al Khaimah’s most important trade routes. The estimated time for completion has been set at 2012.

is it really eco-friendly to build a city in the desert?
the real question is, will they be allowed to leave the city once they’re there?
burn.
What’s the sense? They’re all coming to North America anyways….I think they should just make one big parking lot or figure a way to turn sand into solar panels and sell electricity to the entire continent….who cares anyways.
This city looks magnificent. But what about the water supply? If the stuff doesn’t have to be brought in by boat and truck, surely it will need a pipeline, and that is subject to sabotage in any disturbance. I would not sleep easy in this beautiful place, and would always have a fast camel or a fast car stowed away somewhere.
