“Iceberg” Housing Complex In Aarhus, Denmark

Iceberg

A housing complex designed by JDS Architects + CEBRA in collaboration with Louis Paillard and SeArch will be constructed in Aarhus, Denmark. The 25,000 square meters complex will be deployed by Tækker Group and Brabrand Boligforening and will be completed in the Q2 of 2010.

Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and this is a opportunity to replace he old with the future and sustainable. The project is called “Iceberg” and will provide cultural and social activities, and workplaces.

The designers had a real problem in creating buildings with good ocean views and best lighting conditions because the site of the complex has specific height restrictions. The architects managed to finish their design and the Iceberg looks great and respects all restrictions.

How energy efficient is the building, since it uses what looks like glass as the exterior cover?

What features make it cost-effective and the community sustainable?

What structural system is used to join the “struts” (poles, beams)? In an iceberg, all the angles would be oblique or obtuse with no right angles. Do you use a patented connector?
